The Text Message That Ended Katy Perry's Marriage

The upcoming issue of Vogue has yet to hit newsstands, but Katy Perry's comments are already making headlines. In the interview, the singer revealed that Russell Brand told her via text message that he wanted a divorce.

The details are still murky (the singer said she blamed herself for their split before finding out "the real truth"), but Perry said Brand couldn't handle her as his equal. "He didn’t like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour," she says. "So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting."

According to Perry, Brand didn't break it off with her in person. "Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011," stated Perry.

Recent ex John Mayer doesn't escape the interview without mention either. Perry described the musician as having a "beautiful mind, tortured soul," and despite their relationship being "over," she's still madly in love with him.

"I do have to figure out why I am attracted to these broken birds," she concluded.
