UNICEF official resigns after allegations made

Published February 22, 2018

Associated Press

A senior official at UNICEF has resigned after allegations of inappropriate behavior during an earlier stint at Save The Children.

Deputy executive director Justin Forsyth said Thursday he is stepping down from his UNICEF post "because of the danger of damaging both UNICEF and Save the Children."

He had been investigated at Save the Children UK, where he was chief executive, in 2011 and 2015 after complaints were made by three women.

Forsyth, who is British, said the complaints against him had been dealt with properly "many years ago." He joined UNICEF IN 2016.

His UNICEF biography says he worked as a special adviser to British Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown and that he worked for Oxfam before serving in government.

Oxfam is under fire for inappropriate behavior.
