UN says 210,000 displaced in Central African Republic's capital amid violence

The U.N. refugee agency says about 210,000 people have been displaced in the capital of the Central African Republic in the past two weeks as violence there continues.

Muslim rebels overthrew the Christian-led government in March. Since then, the country has descended into chaos, with at least 500 people killed in Bangui this month.

The World Food Program on Tuesday said it is resuming food delivery to about 40,000 people near the Bangui airport after the security situation forced the work to stop over the weekend.

The U.N. has been criticized for its response to the crisis, but Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday said it is scaling up its humanitarian response.

France this month sent 1,600 troops to try to stabilize the troubled nation.
