UN chemical weapons experts investigating alleged Syria poison gas attack leave Damascus hotel

U.N. chemical weapons experts who are investigating an alleged poison gas attack near Damascus have left their hotel.

The team had delayed its second field trip, initially set for Tuesday, for security reasons.

On Wednesday, Associated Press photographers saw the experts leave their hotel in the Syrian capital in a convoy of cars.

The U.S. says it has "undeniable" evidence of a large-scale chemical attack likely launched by the Syria regime. Syrian activists say the Aug. 21 attack killed hundreds.

Syria's foreign minister has denied regime involvement.

On Monday, the U.N. team collected samples and interviewed witnesses in a Damascus suburb. Their convoy was hit by snipers en route, but the experts were not hurt.

The UN says the team might stay longer than the initially scheduled two weeks.
