Two moderate earthquakes shake Mexico

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

A moderate earthquake in the western Mexican state of Michoacan swayed buildings in Mexico City Tuesday. Mexico City's mayor says there no reports of damage in the capital.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the 5.7 quake was centered 85 miles from Michoacan's capital, Morelia. An earlier 5.0 quake struck 114 miles off the coast of Cabo San Lucas in the state of Baja California Sur. Neither state reported serious damage or injuries.

Many businesses were closed for a holiday in Mexico City, which has been rocked by a series of strong earthquakes and aftershocks in recent days, and offices and streets were largely empty.
