Thai police to tighten security after 4 tourists attacked

Published February 29, 2016

Police say they will have to tighten security on an island in eastern Thailand after four French tourists were assaulted, including two women who were raped.

Police on Monday had the five Cambodian suspects in the attack on Koh Kut reenact the crime, a standard procedure in Thai justice. Police say they will press charges of rape and conspiracy to assault against the five, whom they claim have confessed their involvement.

A director of the hospital where the victims were taken after the Saturday night attack said their condition has improved, with one moved out of the intensive care unit on Sunday.

Koh Kut deputy police chief Lt. Col. Suraporn Thepsen said crime there is rare, but that security would have to be tightened because of the attack.
