Thai Airways orders inspection of Airbus A330s after landing gear collapse warned of in 2011

Thai Airways has ordered an inspection of its entire Airbus A330 fleet after this week's accident involving a model that Europe's air safety authority had warned years ago has a defective part in its landing gear.

Airbus said it has launched a parallel investigation.

Montree Jumrieng, an airline official who oversees inspections, said Friday that inspectors have not yet found any problems in Thai's 26 other A330s. He said investigators were studying why the recommended maintenance failed to prevent a mishap outlined in a June 2011 directive from the European Aviation Safety Agency.

Sunday's flight from Guangzhou, China, skidded off the runway after landing at Bangkok's international airport. Fourteen people were injured. Thai Airways says the accident occurred because the plane's landing gear collapsed.
