Somali militants threaten Uganda, Burundi

Somalia's top militant group is threatening attacks against Burundi and Uganda, months after bombings in Uganda's capital killed 76 people watching the World Cup final on television.

Al-Shabab senior leader Sheikh Fuad Shogole says the attacks would be retaliation for the East African nations' participation in an African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia. Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for July's attacks in Uganda.

Medics also said Sunday that an overnight attack by Islamic militants against government soldiers in Mogadishu left at least 7 dead. Ambulance service chief Ali Muse says medics also treated 15 wounded people.

The Somali government controls only a few blocks of the capital. Somalia has not had a fully functioning government since 1991.
