Russian journalist fights Polish attempt to expel him on apparent suspicions of spying

A Russian journalist suspected of spying in Poland says he is fighting an attempt by Polish authorities to expel him and says he wants the case against him to be declassified.

Leonid Sviridov, a 48-year-old journalist for Russian state news agency Rossiya Segodnya, was stripped of his right to work as a journalist in Poland last month by the Foreign Ministry. That came less than two weeks after Poland detained a top Polish army official and a Polish-Russian lawyer on suspicion of spying.

He says he believes the case against him is "political" and related to those developments. But he says Polish authorities aren't telling him specifically what evidence they have against him.

He spoke to reporters Wednesday after a three-hour meeting with officials in Warsaw concerning his case.
