Romania's president has recalled 14 ambassadors, including a diplomat who was unable to name key ministers before she was appointed to her post and another who went on vacation during the prime minister's visit.
President Klaus Iohannis recalled the ambassadors from various countries Tuesday including Spain, Moldova, Ukraine, Turkey, the Netherlands and Bulgaria. They had served between three and seven years.
Appointed ambassador to Italy in 2013, Dana Manuela Constantinescu, was declared unfit for the post by Parliament after she failed to name Italy's foreign and interior ministers, but former President Traian Basescu appointed her anyway.
Catalin Avramescu, ambassador to Finland, was away during former Prime Minister Victor Ponta's visit to Helsinki. Ponta was a rival of Basescu.
The president is in charge of foreign policy and names ambassadors.
