Queues at French gas stations as strike disrupts supplies

Long queues are forming at gas stations in north-western France as a strike is disrupting the country's fuel supplies.

Alain Vidalies, the junior minister for Transportation, said "less than 20 percent" of the country's gas stations were partially or totally closed Sunday, mostly in Brittany, Normandy and northern France.

In comments to radio station RTL, Vidalies ensured that "there's no risk of shortage next week."

Some fuel depots and refineries have been blocked for several days by truckers protesting against a labor law. The reform has prompted a series of strikes and protests across the country in recent weeks.

The government announced Saturday the law would not apply to the truckers' specific status allowing them to get better paid extra hours.
