Protest at Iranian Embassy in Sweden Turns Violent

Published November 17, 2014

Associated Press

STOCKHOLM -- Police say one person was injured and a handful of demonstrators were arrested after they tried to force their way into the Iranian Embassy in Stockholm, hurling rocks and Molotov cocktails.

Police spokeswoman Christina Johansson says 4-5 people were arrested during Thursday's protest against capital punishment in Iran.

About 100 people took part in the demonstration outside the embassy, and about 70 tried to push their way through a line of police and into the building. Johansson says "the situation has calmed down now."

Johansson says one demonstrator was injured, but it was unclear how seriously.
