Police say 2 arrested, explosives seized after terrorist ring uncovered in eastern China

Published August 04, 2015

Associated Press

Police in eastern China say two men have been arrested and explosives and other weapons seized in a series of raids on what they described as a terrorist ring.

The police department in the city of Wenzhou says on its microblog that officers made a series of coordinated actions at 5 a.m. Friday, and knives and other weapons were seized together with five homemade bombs.

The two suspects in custody were not further described, although China frequently uses the term terrorist to refer to radicals among minority ethnic groups fighting Chinese rule in their traditional homelands.

Recent years have seen a series of deadly attacks by members of the Uighur minority apparently inspired by Muslim extremism and whom the government says receive training and inspiration from abroad.
