Police arrest 3 allegedly planning bomb attacks in Indonesia

Published June 09, 2016

Associated Press

Indonesian police say they have arrested three militants suspected of plotting bomb attacks in the country.

National police spokesman Brig. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar said Thursday that the militants were captured in Surabaya, the provincial capital of East Java.

Amar said the militants, identified as Priyo Hadi Purnomo, Jefri and Feri Novendi, were arrested Wednesday and wanted to target public places, government offices, police and foreign consulates.

Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, has seen a spate of deadly attacks by Islamic militants since bombings on the tourist island of Bali in 2002 killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists.
