Police: 1 person killed, 28 wounded in latest grenade attacks to hit Rwandan capital

KIGALI, Rwanda (AP) — A police spokesman says one person has been killed and 28 others wounded during two separate grenade attacks in the Rwandan capital.

Eric Kayiranga says the attacks occurred Saturday night within an hour of each other. Security officials are investigating whether Saturday's attacks are related to others that took place in February and March.

Authorities have accused a Rwandan general of committing the February attacks. The general is in South Africa but has not been extradited because the two countries do not have an extradition treaty.

Rwanda is scheduled to hold presidential elections in August. Kayiranga declined to speculate whether the attacks are connected to the upcoming polls.
