Poland's govt leaders discussed holding an early election as 1 way to contain bugging scandal

Poland's deputy prime minister says he and the prime minister discussed holding an early election to calm the political turmoil after a magazine published a private conversation between the interior minister and the head of the central bank.

Prosecutors are investigating who was behind the allegedly secret recording.

Opposition parties are calling on Prime Minister Donald Tusk to step down with his entire Cabinet, since by law, the central bank is independent from the government and interference either way is prohibited.

In the recording, made last July, the two discussed how the National Bank of Poland could help the government deal with a budget deficit and win re-election in 2015.

Deputy Prime Janusz PIechocinski said Wednesday he and Tusk discussed early elections among various ways of containing the crisis.
