Philippine officials say army troops and communist guerrillas have clashed in two provinces in fighting that killed 10 rebels, soldiers and villagers.

Army Maj. Angelo Guzman says an undetermined number of New People's Army guerrillas clashed with soldiers Sunday in a remote community in Labo town in Camarines Norte province, southeast of Manila. Four soldiers, three rebels and one villager were killed.

Army Col. Generoso Bolina says soldiers killed two female guerrillas in a separate clash Sunday in a farming village in Lopez town in nearby Quezon province. Troops found two homemade bombs, two M16 rifles and rebel documents at the battle scene.

The rural-based communist rebellion has raged for 43 years.
