A senior Palestinian official says Israel will allow more building materials into Gaza under a U.N.-brokered deal to facilitate reconstruction of the war-battered territory.

Deputy Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa says shipments will start Sunday.

Mustafa said Friday that Palestinian inspectors would be deployed on the Gaza side of the border next week — as early as Sunday — to oversee the imports.

An Israeli defense official says she does not know when the imports are to begin.

Until now, Israel only permitted shipments of building materials for U.N.-supervised projects, but not Gaza's private sector. Israel fears the Islamic militant Hamas will divert shipments for military use. Israel and Hamas fought a 50-day war this summer.

A Palestinian unity government replacing Hamas rule in Gaza is to oversee reconstruction.
