Over 2 million need Libya aid

Published November 17, 2014

The United Nations says 2.1 million people need humanitarian aid because of the conflict in Libya.

The U.N.'s humanitarian coordinator for Libya says some 1.6 million people inside the North African country need aid because fighting has disrupted basic services and depleted food and medical stocks.

Panos Moumtzis says this includes 460,000 people who have fled their homes because of the conflict.

Another 500,000 who have crossed borders to Tunisia, Egypt and elsewhere in the region also need humanitarian assistance.

Moumtzis on Wednesday asked international donors for $408 million to fund the global body's aid operation for Libya through September.
