Oscar Pistorius' lawyers oppose application by TV stations to carry murder trial live

Oscar Pistorius' lawyers say they are opposing applications by South African television stations to broadcast live the double-amputee Olympian's murder trial.

Attorney Kenneth Oldwadge told The Associated Press that Pistorius' defense team was arguing against the applications. Oldwadge said the stations had asked permission to broadcast the blockbuster trial live in its entirety.

Prosecutors say they do not object to some parts of the trial being aired live on television.

Nathi Mncube, a senior spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority, said the prosecution does not oppose opening arguments and rulings by the judge being shown live. However, Mncube said the NPA was opposed to witness testimony being filmed.

At least two television stations have requested permission to air Pistorius' trial live. The applications are being considered by a judge.
