Officials: suicide car bombing, shooting kill 4 people in Iraq

Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

Iraqi authorities say a car bombing and shooting have killed four people in the country's north and west.

Police say in the deadliest attack a suicide car bomber struck an army checkpoint near Ramadi, killing three soldiers and wounding seven others.

Ramadi is 115 kilometers (70 miles) west of Baghdad.

Earlier Monday, drive-by shooters killed Abdul-Elah Hadi, a local council member in the town of Riyadh, said Kirkuk provincial police. Kirkuk is in Iraq's north, part of a disputed area claimed by the Baghdad central government and the Kurdish self-rule region.

Health officials confirmed the casualty figures. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to release information to reporters.

Insurgents routinely target Iraqi police and government officials in an attempt to undermine Iraq's government.
