North Sea island evacuated because of WWII bomb

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

Some 60 people have been evacuated from a 0.7-mile (1.4-kilometer) zone around a construction site on a Danish island where a possible World War II bomb was found.

Police say the bomb was found on the island of Roemoe, which is popular among German tourists in the summer months.

Police said Monday residents and tourists in the evacuated area have been offered shelter in a local school.

The island, which has a permanent population of about 650, sits off the west coast of the Jutland peninsula and north of the German border.
