New Tunisian prime minister: Restoring security, creating jobs are top priorities

Tunisia's new interim prime minister has presented the country's elected assembly with plans for his new government, whose top priorities are restoring security and reviving the economy.

Mehdi Jomaa formed his new government Sunday, the same day Tunisia's assembly approved the nation's landmark new constitution as the basis of its democracy. He shared his plans Tuesday.

Jomaa's government has the task of guiding this North African nation to elections for a new parliament and a president later this year.

Since the 2011 revolution that overthrew Tunisia's dictator, this country of 11 million has been wracked by terrorist attacks, social unrest and a limping economy. With 600,000 young people unemployed and 20 percent of the nation mired in poverty, Jomaa says he will seek foreign aid to finance development projects.
