Murder Suspect in Japan Reportedly Alters Appearance With Plastic Surgery

Published January 07, 2015

The only suspect in the murder of British teacher Lindsay Hawker in Japan two years ago has altered his appearance with plastic surgery, reports in Tokyo have said, according to Sky News.

Tatsuya Ichihashi, 30, is said to have had his eyelids and nose reshaped, had a mole removed from his cheek and grown a beard.

Police plan to soon publish post-surgery photographs of the 30-year-old after a widespread campaign had failed to uncover him, Sky News reported.

Wanted-posters for Ichihashi have been plastered on walls in police and train stations across Japan.

But, despite a $99,000 reward for information leading to his arrest, police have failed to catch the man who is officially wanted on charges of abandoning a body.

Hawker, a 22-year-old English teacher, was found dead in a sand-filled bathtub on the balcony of Ichihashi's apartment near Japan in March 2007.
