Mexican authorities have seized more than a half ton of drugs after finding a small plane crashed in the northern state of Sinaloa.

The federal Attorney General's Office said Thursday in a statement that troops came upon the aircraft at a clandestine airstrip in the town of El Castillo. A photo released by prosecutors showed the propeller plane nose-down in a small waterway.

The statement said agents secured packages of marijuana, methamphetamine and opium paste at the site and a nearby car. They also recovered firearms, including a grenade launcher.

Two suspects were arrested.
