Mexican air force helicopter goes down in western state, 3 dead; 2nd military crash in a month

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican officials say an air force helicopter has crashed in the western state of Jalisco, killing three military personnel on board.

The Defense Department reports that the Bell 206 aircraft originated in Michoacan state and went down about 60 miles (100 kilometers) southeast of the Guadalajara airport.

It blames the crash on "adverse meteorological conditions."

According to a statement late Saturday, two officers were among the three killed. The Department said the crash happened July 7, but did not explain why no announcement was made earlier.

On June 18, a Bell 412 air force chopper crashed in the northern state of Durango, killing 11 military personnel.

That crash was also attributed to bad weather.
