The Dutch capital Amsterdam and surrounding towns are suffering a major power outage, halting trains, trams and affecting flights to Schiphol Airport.
Schiphol says in a tweet it is running on emergency power but flight schedules are "seriously disrupted" by Friday's outage.
Dutch electricity network administrator Tennet says that a large part of North Holland province, which is home to some 2.7 million people, was hit by the outage. Tennet says the cause was an outage at a high-voltage power station in the town of Diemen, just outside Amsterdam.
The national railroad service says that no trains are running in and around Amsterdam.
