Madagascar officials: Explosion targets coup chief

Madagascar officials say an explosion was set off under the car of the nation's coup leader as he was driven home but no injuries were reported.

Col. Fidimalala Rafaliarson, a top aide to leader Andry Rajoelina, says the Rajeolina's car and others in his motorcade were able to continue on to Rajoelina's home after the explosion Thursday.

President Marc Ravalomanana was toppled two years ago after soldiers opened fire on anti-government protesters, killing at least 25 people. The desperately poor island country off the southeast coast of Africa has become increasingly isolated diplomatically.

Rajoelina had promised to organize elections after seizing power, but no poll has taken place.
