The State Department and the Department of Homeland Security are closely monitoring the incidents in London, Fox News confirms.
A State Department official told Fox News that emergency services currently are responding, and recommended that U.S. citizens take guidance from local authorities and “maintain security awareness.”
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those affected by this terrible situation,” a State Department official told Fox News.
State Department officials are “strongly” encouraging U.S. citizens in the United Kingdom to directly contact family members in the U.S. to “advise them of your safety.”
“We stand ready to provide all possible consular assistance should we become aware of any affected U.S. citizen,” the State Department said.
DHS said that they are working with interagency partners and foreign counterparts to gather further information into the attacks on the London Bridge on Saturday and in the surrounding area.
DHS Secretary John Kelly has been briefed on the incidents, and according to DHS, there is no information to indicate a specific, credible terror threat in the United States.
“We are in contact and stand read to assist our friends and allies in the United Kingdom as they respond, investigate, and recover,” a DHS official said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by these incidents.”
