Lithuania searches for missing lawmaker wanted for questioning in deadly pedophilia scandal

Published January 13, 2015

Lithuanian authorities have formally launched a search for a lawmaker wanted for questioning in relation to a deadly pedophilia scandal that has riveted the nation for the past three years.

Neringa Venckiene, who was recently stripped of her legal immunity by fellow parliamentarians, has not been publicly seen in recent days.

The scandal broke in October 2009, when Venckiene's brother, Drasius Kedys, is alleged to have killed two people whom he accused of molesting his daughter. Six months later, Kedys turned up dead in mysterious circumstances.

Venckiene, a former judge, was elected to Parliament last year as part of an anti-pedophilia party dedicated to her brother. Prosecutors, who have been trying to question her for weeks, announced the search Thursday after failing to find the lawmaker at home or work.
