Libya Prosecution extend detention of ICC staffers

Libya is going to hold on to a team of International Criminal Court staffers, despite appeals from court in the Hague to release them.

Libyan prosecutors extended their detention for 45 days, according to a Libyan News Agency report Monday quoting Taha Baara, spokesman for the prosecutor's office.

Baara said the staffers possessed documents, spying devices and medications and committed acts that constitute crimes to harm Libya's security.

The ICC says they were on an official mission to meet an imprisoned son of deposed ruler Moammar Gadhafi. The ICC demanded release of its team.

An Australian lawyer who is on the ICC team met the son, Seif al-Islam Gadhafi. He has been held since November.

The ICC and Libya are embroiled in a dispute over who should try him.
