Kurdish rebels release kidnapped legislator

Turkey's state-run news agency says a Turkish lawmaker has been set free days after he was abducted by Kurdish rebels.

Anadolu Agency says the rebels released Huseyin Aygun, a member of parliament from the main opposition party, unharmed on Tuesday.

Aygun was kidnapped at a roadblock by Kurdish rebels on Sunday while touring his precinct in the southeastern province of Tunceli.

While rebels have previously kidnapped soldiers, local politicians and tourists, it was the first abduction of a parliament member by the rebels fighting for autonomy in southeast Turkey.

It came days after the government claimed troops had killed as many as 115 rebels in clashes and ahead of the 28th anniversary of the rebels' first armed attack on Aug. 15, 1984.
