Kenya Airways to retrench hundreds in turnaround plan

Published March 31, 2016

Kenya's flagship airline, Kenya airways has announced it will retrench or redeploy 600 staff members in a cost cutting measure after the company experienced massive losses in the last couple of years.

Kenya Airways Chief Executive Officer Mbuvi Ngunze said Thursday the restructuring process will start in May and accounts for 10 percent of their overall turnaround plan. Efforts to reverse the 25.7 billion-shilling ($253 million) annual loss it reported in July include selling some prime assets.

Kenya Airways said last week it is planning to reduce its fleet of to 36 aircraft from the current 52.
