Justin Trudeau won't be moving into the prime minister's residence he grew up in

Justin Trudeau will not be moving into the traditional prime minister's residence, his childhood home while his father was Canada's leader.

The National Capital Commission said Monday that Trudeau will live across the street while he is briefed on renovation options for 24 Sussex.

Trudeau and his young family will live in Rideau Cottage, which is on the grounds of the residence of the governor general, Queen Elizabeth's II representative as the head of state.

24 Sussex has long been in need of major repairs but prime ministers have been reluctant to renovate for fear of causing a backlash.

Trudeau is the eldest son of the late Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, who served from 1968 to 1984 with a brief interruption.
