Jubilee stewards left out in cold after mix up

A company that provided unpaid workers for Diamond Jubilee celebrations says it has apologized after some staff complained they were forced to camp out in the open air.

Tomorrow's People, contracted by the government to provide unemployed people with work experience, said those involved had volunteered to help with crowd control, hoping to win temporary jobs at the 2012 London Olympics.

The Guardian newspaper reported that some complained they were sent by bus to London in the early hours of Sunday and forced to camp before beginning work.

Tomorrow's People on Tuesday apologized for a "big error" after no-one was on hand to meet the workers when they arrived.

The government has been criticized over the work experience programs, as some who refuse to take part can lose welfare payments.
