Jordan rejects French extradition request in 1982 attack

Published February 10, 2016

Associated Press

A Jordanian court has rejected a request by France to extradite two Jordanians sought in connection with a 1982 attack on a Jewish deli in Paris in which six people were killed, including two Americans, a Jordanian official said Wednesday.

The official said the court determined an extradition treaty between the two countries did not apply in this case. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the issue with reporters.

In the 1982 attack, Palestinians throwing grenades burst into the Jo Goldenberg deli, spraying machine-gun fire. The attack also wounded 22 people.

A man described as the "supervisor" of the attack was arrested in Jordan last year, but then released under a travel ban pending a court decision on a French extradition request.
