Israeli police has arrested a woman wanted in Australia for suspected sexual crimes.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says the woman, in her 50s, will appear before a court in Israel on Tuesday as Australia seeks to have her extradited.
Rosenfeld says the woman was arrested on suspicion of obstructing court proceedings by attempting to hide evidence in her case. The woman is wanted in Australia for sexual crimes against minors while she was a teacher at a local school. Israel launched an undercover investigation upon request from Interpol.
A court previously stopped extradition proceedings after determining the suspect was not fit to stand trial.
But police say they have indications she was pretending to be suffering from a mental illness to avoid extradition and are now re-examining her case.
