Islamist sect suspected in man's death in Nigeria

An official says a radical Islamist group is suspected in the killing of a prominent community leader in a northeast Nigerian city scarred by sectarian violence.

Zanna Kaselama was shot dead at a mosque in the city of Maiduguri late Thursday.

Lt. Col. Sagir Musa said Friday that members of the Boko Haram sect are believed to be behind the killing, which comes as Muslims observe the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

The attack has stoked fears that Boko Haram will strike over the weekend's Eid el-Fitr holiday, which caps Ramadan.

Boko Haram is suspected in more than 660 deaths this year alone. It has previously targeted places of worship on major holidays.
