Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

Iraqi officials say two car bomb explosions in Baghdad have killed at least six people and wounded more than two dozen.

A police officer says a parked car bomb ripped through a livestock market on Thursday afternoon in the southeastern suburb of Nahrawan, killing four civilians and wounding 22 there.

Another police officer says a second car bomb went off in the industrial area of southwestern neighborhood of Bayaa, killing three people and wounding 11.

Two medical officials confirmed the causality figures. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to media.

Violence has spiked in Iraq in recent weeks, raising fears of a return to widespread sectarian bloodshed.
