Iraqi official: Body of Tareq Aziz, Saddam Hussein's former aid, is still at Baghdad airport

Published June 12, 2015

Associated Press

An Iraqi official says the body of Tareq Aziz, Saddam Hussein's former top aide who died last week in prison, is still at Baghdad International Airport under heavy security and due to be flown to Amman.

The official from the Iraqi Aviation Authority said Friday that the body was supposed to be flown a day earlier but some delay occurred due to lack of some official documents. He did not elaborate.

Aziz's daughter Zeinab said on Thursday that the body of her father went missing at the airport while en route to Jordan for burial.

The body will be flown on a Royal Jordanian flight later today, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to talk to the media.
