Iraqi blast kills 6 security officials

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

Iraqi police say an explosives-rigged motorcycle killed six Kurdish intelligence officials when it blew up near them in a town in the country's north.

The blast followed a wave of violence across Iraq on Monday during which 115 people were killed in the nation's deadliest day in two years. Many of the attacks targeted security forces.

In Tuesday's attack, a motorcycle exploded in the town of Tuz Khormato as a Kurdish intelligence patrol drove by.

Police said five other people, including two intelligence officials, were wounded in the blast. The casualties were confirmed by a medic at a nearby hospital. All spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Tuz Khormato is located 130 miles north of Baghdad.
