Iran's reformist campaigns on the Tehran subway

Published February 23, 2016

Associated Press

Iran's most prominent reformist candidate has reached out to Tehran residents on the subway as another way to win votes ahead of Friday's crucial parliamentary elections.

Mohammad Reza Aref circulated among passengers of the Tehran metro line downtown on Tuesday during a day of public campaigning.

Aref and his reformist bloc have also widely used social media vehicles like Instagram as well as Telegram, a popular mobile messaging app where supporters of candidates share text, video, photo and voice messages to attract votes.

Reformists hope to perform well in the vote, boosted by public enthusiasm for the recently implemented Iranian nuclear deal with world powers and the lifting of international sanctions.
