International Criminal Court drops case against Ugandan rebel after he is confirmed dead

International Criminal Court judges have terminated the case against a senior commander in a notorious Ugandan rebel group following confirmation that he died nearly two years ago in Africa.

Okot Odhiambo was an alleged deputy army commander in the Lord's Resistance Army, a violent militia led by fugitive Joseph Kony. Odhiambo was indicted in 2005 on 10 charges including murder, enslavement and using child soldiers.

The Hague-based court dropped all charges Thursday following DNA tests that confirmed a body exhumed by Ugandan authorities in March was that of Odhiambo. Ugandan authorities say he died on Oct. 27, 2013.

Kony and his deputy Vincent Otti remain at large despite international efforts to arrest them.

Another LRA member, Dominic Ongwen, is in the court's custody.
