Imprisoned Pussy Riot member's husband complains of no contact with wife for 17 days

Published January 13, 2015

The husband of imprisoned Pussy Riot member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova is complaining that he hasn't been able to contact her for more than two weeks as she is transferred to a new prison.

Tolokonnikova is serving two years on a conviction of hooliganism after the band's politically provocative 2012 performance in Moscow's main cathedral. She went on a hunger strike to protest prison conditions in September, and she was hospitalized. The prison directorate said last week that she was being moved to a new prison colony.

Pyotr Verzilov told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he had not heard from her in 17 days and "the fact that she has been in transit for so long amounts to petty humiliation on the part of these petty people."
