Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

The two top contenders and their running mates in Kenya's presidential race, including two politicians facing crimes against humanity charges at an international court, have been officially registered by Kenya's electoral authority.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Wednesday cleared Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Vice president Kalonzo Musyoka as candidates for the Coalition for Reform and Democracy. It also listed Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and former Minister William Ruto as candidates for the Jubilee Alliance.

A total of eight candidates will vie for the presidency in the March 4 elections.

Kenyatta and Ruto face crimes against humanity charges at the International Criminal Court for allegedly orchestrating post poll chaos after a flawed presidential vote in 2007-08. A high court is will determine the candidates' compliance for the positions.
