A Russian governor says a helicopter carrying Interior Ministry officers has crashed northeast of Moscow, killing two people and injuring two others.

Vladimir region governor Svetlana Orlova told Russian news agencies Friday that a rescue team has reached the site of the crash about 200 kilometers (124 miles) northeast of Moscow and found two people dead. She said the pilot of the AS-350 helicopter and another person are seriously injured.

Investigators said the officers were out to investigate reports of illegal forest clearings. They didn't immediately provide more details about the identities of the victims or the cause of the crash but said in a statement they will test fuel samples and look into a possible pilot error.
