Heavy rain, floods in Albania kill 1, block roads; cuts to power, water

Published November 22, 2015

Associated Press

Albanian authorities say that heavy rainfall has killed one person and has flooded many areas, and blocked national roads, cut power and water supply in several places.

Emergency head Shemsi Prenci on Sunday said that a 27-year old man working at a hydro power station died after he was taken away by the river.

Rainfall has caused more problems in four districts in central and northern Albania, including the capital, Tirana, with some houses and two bridges damaged, and roads blocked in those areas.

Many streets in Tirana were flooded and authorities said there was a temporary cut to power and water supplies in some of its neighborhoods.
