Greek negotiators in Brussels to explore 'scope for convergence' with creditors

Greek negotiators are in Brussels to explore the "scope for convergence" with the country's creditors, following days of acrimony over rival reform proposals for a deal that will unlock Greece's last remaining bailout funds.

Government spokesman Gabriel Sakellaridis said Monday that Greece considers the 47-page document delivered by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras during a visit to Brussels last week to be the basis for a deal.

The institutions overseeing Greece's bailout — the European Central Bank, International Monetary Fund and European Commission — have issued their proposals, but Tsipras rejected them as unacceptable.

Sakellaridis also said the government was not considering elections, an option raised by some ministers if a solution cannot be found.

Meanwhile, Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis is having talks with German counterpart Wolfgang Schaeuble in Berlin.
