German prosecutors file terror charges following attempted Bonn train station bombing in 2012

Prosecutors say they have charged a German man over an attempted bombing at Bonn's main railway station in December 2012.

Federal prosecutors said Friday the 26-year-old, identified only as Marco G. in keeping with German privacy rules, is accused of placing a pipe bomb at the former German capital's central station. The bomb failed to explode. He was charged with attempted murder and attempting to cause an explosion.

In addition, prosecutors charged Marco G. and three others with forming an Islamic terrorist group that aimed to kill the head of a regional right-wing party. The other suspects were identified as 43-year-old Albanian Enea B., 25-year-old German-Turkish dual national Koray D. and 24-year-old German Tayfun S.

The four men were arrested the night before the planned killing in March 2013.
