German minister: Facebook still not doing enough to protect data, will leave network

Published November 17, 2014

BERLIN (AP) — Germany's consumer protection minister says that Facebook still isn't doing enough to protect users' privacy and she plans to give up her membership of the social network.

Ilse Aigner first raised concerns about Facebook two months ago and met Thursday with Richard Allan, its director of European public policy.

The minister said that changes announced by Facebook last week were a first step in the right direction but she isn't sure it was a turning point and Thursday's meeting confirmed her skepticism.

Facebook last week simplified its privacy controls in response to a backlash among users.
